Lauri Fielding

Lauri Fielding comes from a family of artists and began drawing and painting in early childhood. Her father provided her with her first materials and instruction. She later received degrees in fine art and art education at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.

During school, portrait commissions helped with expenses and after graduation, Lauri continued doing portraits for three years as an advertising artist for Star Market Company in Cambridge, MA. In the following four years, she worked as a free-lance graphic designer for National Evaluation Systems in Amherst, MA.

Gradually, while taking on portrait commissions and remaining dedicated to further study of the old masters and painters of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Lauri coincidentally developed silversmithing skills. She designed and produced a line of gallery quality jewelry in precious metals and stones that gained a national market.

In the eighties and nineties, she taught numerous courses and workshops in silversmithing at Hampshire College in Hadley, MA, Smith Vocational School in Northampton, MA, and Leverett Artists and Artisans in Leverett MA. At Leverett Artists and Artisans she was resident silversmith for four years.

While studying engineering and taking courses in engineering and architectural drawing and rendering, Lauri returned to fine art painting full time. After studying with several artists trained at the Art Students League of New York, she opened a gallery of her own work in Rockport, MA. Her work presently shows in other fine art galleries in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York has been added to hundreds of private collections.
